Presentation

EMERG (EMERG is a Materials Engineering Research Group) is a multidisciplinary group focused on the research and development of engineering and advanced materials, and is located at the Engineering School of Bilbao, within the University of the Basque Country.

The goal of the main research line of this group is finding relationships between processing conditions and final properties of materials (mainly polymeric and metallic composites), paying especial attention to the micro- and macro-structural characterization of the studied materials, since it constitutes the bridge between processing and final properties.

The predisposition of the group to form collaborative relationships has derived in a group composed by members of varied backgrounds, which makes it possible for the group to use analysis techniques that usually not known to materials specialists.

  • Transformation

    We study and optimize indus­trial processes of material transformation in order to im­prove product quality

  • Structure of material

    We work on the nano- and micro-scale characterization of the structure of the studied materials, especially on mode­ling the 3D structure of the reinforcements

  • Properties

    We measure the physico-chemical and mechanical pro­perties of material and then we propose constitutive material models to predict the behavior of those materials

  • Techniques

    We combine traditional and advanced techniques for the characterization, modeling and simulation of materials. The advanced techniques are based on applied statistics and artificial intelligence
